The iPhone will undoubtedly play an increasingly important role wherever custom applications are required in portable computing environments. Avocet has developed an infrastructure for iPhone applications providing real-time, 2 way communications with our Transmission Automation Systems.
We currently have 3 iPhone applications that allow remote users to view an extensive variety of system information. Privileged users can control certain aspects of the system behaviour, for example changing to backup devices after receiving alarms about failed equipment.
If a fault is detected on one of our Transmission Automation Systems an alarm can be sent to engineers’ iPhones. This is accomplished by sending Push Notifications via Apple’s APNS service.
We expect these applications to be a popular enhancement to our product range and further iPhone applications are already planned.
